Stands for Frames Per Second. The number of frames in a video sequence that can be displayed each second to give the impression of movement. This number depends on the power and speed of your PC. To give the impression of smooth, full-motion video your PC needs to display at least 25 separate frames a second. If the frames are small, there is not too much data to update, but if the frame is large, then the PC has to update the hundreds of thousands of pixels that make up each image 25 times per second. To do this needs a fast graphics adaptor or special video display hardware.
